“I’m Scared….I’m Scared of Failing”

There is stigma around being scared or being fearful. I have found that fear comes in business and life when you are ready to step up to the next level. I have found in business it’s a common theme when speaking to some of my mentees.

👉Everybody gets ‘fearful’ at points on their business journey. Recognise those feelings and embrace them. I CAN HELP YOU!

Fear can creep into your Mindset and negatively influence your business and life – we do not want that! We want to have an Unshakeable ‘Black Belt Mindset’ and that’s one thing I help develop in my successful mentees.

Having taught Karate for +25 years (practiced for nearly 30), building up my successful profitable Karate school and teaching +10’000 students, the ‘fear’ used to come at various stages of a student’s journey;
1. When they first walked into the dojo/on the mats
2. When they first had to spar with somebody
3. When they first had to do a kata or a demonstration in front of the class
4. Entering their first competition
Often the biggest fear was…
5. Attempting their 1st degree Black Belt
Although at this level after years of training they recognised the signs and could deal with it better.

I used to tell every one of them that it’s completely natural to have those feelings and that’s your bodies way of helping you get through it.

When speaking to my entrepreneurs, my mentees who want to improve their business and mindset it often comes from:
1. I want to leave my 9-5 but don’t know if I can make my business work?
2. I want to expand my business but what happens if it fails?
3. Why would people pay me for my services?
4. I am doing ok, and I don’t think there is anywhere higher to go?
5. I’m already the best at what I do so how do I go up?

👉I think the thing we all need to remember is that we all feel fear. You are not the only one to feel it and certainly won’t be the last.

Often, we can pedestalise people because they seem to be unflappable. Having read many sports/athlete auto biographies it is very clear that they still get nervous, even though they may be ranked within the top 10 in the world in their sport.

So, what am I trying to say, to paraphrase Susan Jeffers….
“feel the fear and do it anyway”
“you can handle it”
“I’m ready to move up”

In my own business I often had fears…
1. What happens if I waste all this money on marketing?
2. What happens if we expand and then we lost lots of business?
3. If I’m not the first there and the last to leave, then things will get missed – I need to be there all the time!

Like most things in life, it’s down to your mindset and the way you look at things. Start working on that positive mindset and you start to see it help in ALL areas of your life. Fear has also been referred to as False Expectations Appearing Real – make of that what you wish.
